In 2008, the General Administration of Sport of China approved e-sports as the no. 78 official sports competition.
In 2018, the Asian Games in Jakarta included esports as a demonstration event.
On December 16, 2020, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced that e-sports will become an official event of the Asian Games and will be included in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

On November 6, Beijing time, the 2021 Shanghai City Amateur League e-sports series 'Cambridge Cup' League of Heroes Elite Invitational tournament was held in the E·ONE E-sports Industrial Park in Cambridge, Shanghai.
